VMware quietly debuts Arm hypervisor tech preview
VMware has introduced a technology preview of its ESX hypervisor that supports Arm processors. This new offering allows for virtualization on servers powered by Nvidia Grace and Ampere processors. However, the tech preview currently lacks several features available in VMware's x86 hypervisor.
- ▪The ESX hypervisor can run on Arm processors and supports guests running RHEL, Ubuntu, and SUSE.
- ▪Arm host clusters must be managed by a separate vCenter running on x86, according to VMware's documentation.
- ▪The tech preview does not support vSAN hyperconverged storage or NSX virtual networking.
