These questions will terrify Hollywood this summer
Hollywood faces a high-stakes summer with major franchises like 'Star Wars,' 'Superhero' films, and Steven Spielberg's return testing audience interest. The performance of long-awaited releases will determine the industry's direction amid signs of franchise fatigue. With heavy competition and rising production costs, studios are anxious about which films will succeed and which will underperform.
- ▪'The Mandalorian and Grogu' is the first 'Star Wars' film in seven years and arrives amid declining franchise buzz despite strong past box office performance.
- ▪Steven Spielberg's 'Disclosure Day' marks his return to original sci-fi with aliens, reuniting him with themes from his classic blockbusters after recent underperforming films.
- ▪'Supergirl,' starring Milly Alcock, represents a risk for DC and Warner Bros. as non-tentpole superhero films face declining audience interest.
- ▪Recent Marvel releases like 'The Marvels,' 'Eternals,' and 'Thunderbolts' have underperformed, signaling potential fatigue in the superhero genre.
- ▪'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' is considered a guaranteed hit, continuing the character's consistent box office success since 2002.
