Team Finds Wreck Of US Ship Sunk By German U-Boat With 131 Aboard
A British diving team has discovered the wreck of the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Tampa, which was sunk by a German U-boat in 1918 during World War I, resulting in the deaths of all 131 crew and passengers aboard. The ship was found approximately 50 miles from Newquay, Cornwall, after three years of research and exploration. The Tampa's sinking was the single largest loss of American naval lives in World War I, and the site is now recognized as the final resting place of those who perished.
