With the water level in the Bhavanisagar Dam dropping to 59 ft., the dilapidated Sri Madhava Perumal Temple, which remains largely submerged in the reservoir area, has resurfaced.A study of 10 to 15 inscriptions found on the temple premises by the Yaakkai Heritage Trust revealed that the site is located at the confluence of the Bhavani and Moyar rivers and once housed several temples and settlements. The region also served as an important peruvali (trunk road) connecting the Kongu region with Karnataka and Kerala. One inscription indicates that a village named Thuravalur existed more than 1,000 years ago and it had a Shiva temple known as Thondreeshwaramudiayar.
