Add A Comment Theo de Raadt announced the release today of OpenBSD 7.9 as the latest feature update to this unique BSD platform. OpenBSD 7.9 on AMD64 (x86_64) is catching up to other operating systems in bumping the maximum CPU core count supported, given today's increasingly high core count systems. OpenBSD 7.9 on AMD64 bumped MAXCPUs from 64 to 255. The 255 limit is due to xAPIC requirements and until the OpenBSD x2APIC support is in better shape that will be the limit, even with today's dual socket Intel Xeon and AMD EPYC processors having higher CPU core counts.
