For a prime example of "die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become a villain," look no further than Amazon's superhero satire The Boys. An extremely strong initial three-season run gave way to two more seasons of aimless meandering, dipping into plotlines that didn't go anywhere before an anticlimactic finale that was resolved by a secret weapon introduced out of nowhere in the penultimate episode. At least Antony Starr's acting was top-tier throughout, but the next spinoff won't have that to lean on.
