Premier Gurgia Meloni said Wednesday she was shocked by the murder of four migrant farm workers, three Afghans and a Pakistani, who were burned alive in a minivan allegedly by two Pakistani gangmasters in Calabria on Monday. The gangmasters have been arrested on suspicion of premeditated murder. They allegedly locked the workers in the van, poured flammable liquid into it and set it alight because the men had been demanding better pay and conditions. One other labourer, an Afghan, managed to break the rear window of the vehicle and escape. "The horrific murder of the four farm workers in Calabria has shocked us all," Meloni said on X.
