Mecha Comet's April Voyage – Open Modular Handheld on mainline Linux 7.0 kernel
Mecha Comet's April update details progress on the I.MX95 mainboard, which is nearing release to manufacturing, while ongoing issues with WiFi performance persist. Thermal design has improved significantly with an extended aluminum frame for better heat distribution, and reliability testing of the GPIO connector is underway. The device has passed EMI emissions testing, and waterproofing has been enhanced with an IPX7-rated connector replacing the headphone jack.
- ▪The I.MX95 mainboard is seven days away from release to manufacturing, with final review comments from NXP being incorporated.
- ▪WiFi performance issues are still unresolved, but the team is working with U-Blox and NXP to identify problems related to access point behavior and power-saving modes.
- ▪Thermal design improvements have been achieved by extending the aluminum middle frame under the battery for more even heat distribution.
- ▪The front 40-pin GPIO connector is undergoing rigorous durability testing using a motorized pogo pin jig to simulate repeated connections.
- ▪EMI emissions for the I.MX8M Plus DVT are now within limits, and pre-certification testing is planned for May; all connectors are now waterproof, including the new IPX7-rated port.
