A 28-year-old resident of Surathkal has complained to the police about losing ₹2.24 lakh to an APK file fraud.In the complaint filed at the Surathkal police station, the victim said he received a WhatsApp message from his friend’s mobile number that contained an APK file link mentioned as “RTO challan”.After clicking the link, he provided his email ID, mobile and Aadhaar number. Soon after his WhatsApp and his mobile phone got blocked, and he failed to access the UIDAI app using his Aadhaar number.He secured a new SIM card of his mobile number. When his mobile phone got activated, he received SMS on April 28 at 3.30 p.m. about deduction of an amount from his bank account. The victim then visited the Bank of Baroda branch.
