Indus Script (2015)
The Indus Script is the earliest known writing system from the Indian subcontinent, developed by the Indus Valley Civilization. Its origins remain unclear, as it has not been deciphered and lacks bilingual texts for comparison. This uncertainty contributes to the limited understanding of the Indus Valley Civilization itself.
- ▪The Indus Script dates back to the early Harappan phase around 3500-2700 BCE.
- ▪Thousands of inscriptions have been discovered, primarily on seals and pottery, with most being short in length.
- ▪The script's connection to later Indian writing systems is still uncertain.
