Hurricane Helene nearly wiped out an entire species of salamander — its whole range is a 14-mile NC gorge, smaller than a tenth of Disney World. Scientists climbed back through the landslides and rescued 15, including 4 pregnant females. They now live at the NC Zoo for breeding and release.
