Strong visual presentation can only get you so far when your characters are two-dimensional and your plot folds like a wet napkin under the slightest scrutiny. That said, "two-dimensional characters doing cool things with striking visuals" is basically where the Resident Evil game franchise lives, so Cregger was the obvious pick to direct what feels like the thirtieth adaptation of the series. The new movie will not directly adapt a game in the series, but rather focus on a side story in the same universe, which I feel like is sort of the optimal route for live-action game adaptations.
