In April, the Special Court for POCSO Act cases in Sivaganga had sentenced Chandran to death, who is a labourer, from Maruthipatti near Singampunari in Sivaganga district. He was convicted by the trial court for sexually assaulting five girls all under the age of 10.Based on the complaint lodged by the father of one of the girls, Tiruppattur All-Women Police had registered a case and arrested Chandran. The Goondas Act was also invoked against him.
