Cree composer Cris Derksen spotlights new works with major ensembles
Cree composer and cellist Cris Derksen is premiering new works with major Canadian ensembles, including the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Ballet Kelowna, and the Amadeus Choir. Her piece Still Here, developed with Indigenous patients at CAMH, incorporates personal stories and everyday sounds into its composition. Derksen’s work consistently blends classical, rock, and Indigenous musical traditions while addressing social and environmental issues.
