A couple died after lightning struck their meat shop near Siruvalur in Gobichettipalayam taluk on Sunday (May 24, 2026) evening.The police said Suresh, 42, who ran the outlet on Moopan Road near Siruvalur, and his wife Manjula, 38, were at their tin-roofed shop situated beneath a tamarind tree when heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning lashed the area around 6.10 p.m. The couple reportedly collapsed unconscious after the lightning strike. Personnel from the Siruvalur police station rescued them and shifted them to the Government Hospital in Gobichettipalayam, where doctors declared them dead.The couple is survived by their daughter Priya, 18, and son Kathiresan.
