Barkly gets green light for 10,000m NT rare earths drilling blitz
Barkly Rare Earths has secured its environmental mining licence, enabling a 10,000-metre drilling campaign at its Northern Territory project to expand its 40-million-tonne rare earths resource. The phase one program, managed by RSC, will involve over 400 shallow drill holes and use both reverse circulation and sonic drilling methods. Real-time on-site analysis will guide the exploration, aiming to upgrade the resource to higher-confidence categories. The company is also advancing exploration at its nearby Buntine base metals project.
- ▪Barkly Rare Earths received an environmental mining licence and notice of authority to begin drilling at its flagship NT project.
- ▪The 10,000-metre drilling program will include over 400 holes and test for lateral expansion of the current 40-million-tonne inferred resource.
- ▪Drilling will use both reverse circulation and sonic methods, with on-site portable XRF for real-time data analysis.
- ▪The resource contains 82,000 tonnes of total rare earth oxide at 2,100 ppm TREO and remains open in all directions.
- ▪Barkly is also fast-tracking exploration at its Buntine base metals project with reconnaissance work scheduled for May to June.

This complements an existing deemed mining licence already held by Barkly.Drilling in the Top End at Barkly Rare Earths’ namesake deposit near Tennant Creek.FileBoots-on-the-ground will be led by specialist international resource development consultants RSC, which has been appointed as the program manager to provide expert oversight and quality control.Barkly’s campaign is a high-impact initiative comprising more than 400 shallow holes with an average depth of 25 metres. Mobilisation is slated for late May, with the drill rods expected to start turning in June once ground conditions dry out.AdvertisementThe program will test for a lateral expansion to the Barkly project’s inferred mineral resource, which currently stands at 40 million tonnes grading 2100 parts per million Total Rare Earth Oxide (TREO) for an…
