Abused, malnourished toucans nursed back to health at NYC’s Bronx Zoo after trafficking ring rescue
Fourteen keel-billed toucans rescued from a Mexico-US wildlife trafficking ring have been rehabilitated at the Bronx Zoo after being found malnourished and injured. The birds were smuggled in a car dashboard, sedated and duct-taped, before being intercepted at a California border crossing. After eight months of care, the toucans have recovered, with some remaining at the zoo for public viewing and breeding while others were relocated to different zoos.
